Do Air Conditioners filter cigarette smoke?

I have an air conditioner on my living room window and since I''m not sure whether it filters cigarette smoke I sometimes have to mount a window fan on the other window to blow the smoke out when I smoke...this causes some of the cool air sneak out of

AC is meant to cool an area, not filter cigarette smoke. Not its not effective at that.
