What is a alternator repair kit? How difficult is it to install?

I have a 1997 Ford Taurus and my battery light started flickering. The next morning my car wouldn't start. I jumped it multiple times and the battery would not stay charged. I took it to the auto parts store and they told me my battery was fine, and but

It depends on what is wrong with the alternator. Most times it is the bridge rectifier(diode pack) or regulator that has gone bad. If the repair kit doesn't include the part that actually needs repair, it would be kind of pointless.
